Pop-up Long Bar at Raffles Singapore during Restoration Period

The original Singapore Sling is now available at the pop-up Long Bar located at 3 Seah Street from 11am to 8pm daily, next to the Raffles Gift Shop which remains open throughout the hotel’s restoration. The pop-up Long Bar is a cosy 15-seater, complete with wooden flooring to replicate the earthy décor inspired by Malayan plantation life in the 1920s.

The hotel’s iconic Singapore Sling is widely regarded as Singapore’s national cocktail and was created in 1915 by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon. Primarily a gin-based cocktail, the Singapore Sling also contains pineapple juice along with grenadine, lime juice and Dom Benedictine. Giving it the pretty pink hue are cherry brandy and Cointreau, which Bartender Ngiam selected to give the cocktail this rosy colour. In keeping with tradition, guests are offered peanuts alongside their Singapore Sling and invited to throw the shells onto the floor; quite possibly the only place in Singapore where ‘littering is encouraged’.
