Boracay Island in the Philippines Closed for 6 Months

One of the best-known islands in the Philippines is to be closed to tourists for six months over concerns the white sandy beaches are becoming a cesspool.

 

Boracay island became famous for its white sand beaches and coral reefs that made it a haven for travelers, but is now threatened by the rapid development and pollution.

 

President Rodrigo Duterte has therefore ordered the shutdown of Boracay Island starting April 26, 2018 in order to clean up and rehabilitate the Island from the damages occurred.
